Dr. Walter W. Theus, dentist, business leader COLUMBIA Dr. Walter Wy-man Theus, dentist and business leader, died Nov. 28, 1992. He was 75. He attended the University of South Carolina and graduated from Harvard School of Dental Medicine. He served an internship in oral surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and opened a practice in Columbia in 1952. He was the founder, first president, then chairman of the board of Thermal Engineering Corp. in Columbia. He also was a founder, first president, then chairman of the board of Metal Fabricators Inc. in Greenville until his retirement in 1979. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served as a bombardier on a B-17. His plane was shot down over the Ploesti Oil Fields in Romania, and he was held a prisoner of war in Bucharest. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters and Prisoner of War Medal. He was a member of the American and the South Carolina Dental Associations and was one of the organizers and president of the Richland County Dental Association. He was a deacon at Eastminster Presbyterian Church and was a member of Forest Lake Club, Palmetto Club, Columbia Kiwanis, Tarantella and Ouadrille. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Jones Theus of Columbia; a daughter, Mrs. James A. (Linda Theus) Hinson of Charlotte; two sons, Walter W. Theus Jr. and William H. Theus, both of Columbia; two sisters, Mrs. F. Davant (Dale) Pinck-ney of Ridgeland and Mrs. John C. (Clara) Padelford of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Col. James T. Theus ofCo-lumbia; and two stepdaughters, Mrs. J. Michael (Martie Gibbs) Kapp of Columbia and Mrs. Harry Lee (Louise Gibbs) Eichelberger ofGlencoe.Ill. Graveside services: 2 p.m. Monday in Elmwood Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Midlands or to the charity of one's choice. Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel.
