Robinson Funeral Home, Easley. MRS. CARL H. NEWTON Mrs. Pearline Holcombe Newton, 79, of 5 Oakdale Drive, died Thursday, March 9, 1989 at Saint Francis Hospital after a month's illness.

Born in Spartanburg County, she was a daughter of the late Wade Hampton and Carrie Finch Holcombe and lived in Greenville most of her life. Mrs. Newton was an interior decorator before her retirement, and formerly was associated with Myers Arnold Company. She was a member of John Calvin Presbyterian Church. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs.

J. B. (Dolores Landrum) La Boone of Easley; two sons, Don H. Newton of Freedom, CA. and J.

M. (Fig) Newton of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. R. L. (Ruby) Springfield of Greenville; a brother, Wade Thomas (W.T.) Holcombe of Greenville; nine grandchildren, Ricky Landrum, Chan L.

Robertson, Scott Landrum, Rindy N. Staf-fins, Susan N. Shea, Donna N. Hazelwood, Keith Newton, Karla Newton and Denise Newton; and 15 great-grandchildren. Mrs.

Newton was predeceased by her husband, Carl H. Newton, July 4, 1988. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel of the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial park.

HETRICK Raleigh, NC. Mrs. Ida Biemann Hetrick, 93, of 525 East Jones Street, Raleigh, NC, died at Hillha-ven Nursing Center in Raleigh on March 7, 1989 following an illness of two months. Born in Walhalla, SC, October 10, 1895, she was a daughter of the late Henry D. A.

Biemann and Catharine Rieppe Biemann. She was a granddaughter of Dietrich Biemann, one of the original settlers of the town and who built the first house in Walhalla. She was one of the first students to attend the first public school in Walhalla which replaced the formerly private owned schools. She was a graduate of Lander College where she was given a scholarship as an Assistant Instructor in Physical Education. She also attended Clemson University, she was a former supervisor of the School Lunch Program in Oconee County.

She attend Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Raleigh and was a former' member of Saint John Lutheran Church in Walhalla, SC. She was active in the Women of the church organizations. During World War II she was a member of the War Mothers Club in Raleigh. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Anne H.

Kennedy; a son-in-law, Frank R. Kennedy; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Jonnie W. Hetrick all of Raleigh; grandson. Clerk of Wake County Superior Court, John M.

Kennedy of Raleigh; granddaughters, Dr. Katherine K. Waggoner of Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Dr. Annette K. Cowell of Stillwater, four great-grandchildren; a nephew, M.

B. Neville of Walhalla, SC; nieces, Mrs. Rieppe N. Mays and Miss Catherine Hughs of Walhalla, SC, Miss Katharine R. Adams of Rock Hill, SC and Mrs.

Annette N. Clark of Simpsonville, SC. She was predeceased by a son, Charles M. Hetrick; two brothers, four sisters, one nephew and one niece. Funeral services will be Friday, March 10, at 11:00 a.m.

Gladys Hall Grant, 88, of 735 Wade Hampton Blvd. and widow of George W. Grant, died Wednesday, March 8, 1989 at AUen Bennett Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. A native of Haywood County, N.C., daughter of the late Isaac Turner and Harriett Louise Rogers Hall, she was a retired employee of Southern Worsted and a member of White Oak Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Lula B. Green Sunday School Class, the Fannie Gwinn Circle, the Aurora Club and the W.M.U.

Surviving are three daughters, Ethel Lindsey of Maryville, Mildred Green of Bethal, Washington and Mary Lou Dill of Spartanburg; four sons, George W. Grant, Jr. of Taylors, Rev. Olin D. Grant of Stoney Point, N.C., Frank Grant of Pelzer and Donald Grant of Santa Monica, a sister, Effie Blackwell of Inman; 37 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at White Oak Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Harry Smith and the Rev. Eugene Lawrence. Burial will be at Double Springs Baptist Church.

Irvin, 87, a resident of 303 Piedmont Highway for the past forty years, husband of Kathleen Dilling Irvin, died Tuesday, March 7, 1989 at Greenville Memorial Hospital after a period of declining health.

Born in Jackson County, he was a son of the late William Meade and Sallie Anderson Irvin and lived most of his life in Greenville. Mr. Irvin retired in 1970 as the owner and operator of H.L. Irvin, Inc. He was a Deacon and Treasurer of Dunean Baptist Church for thirty years.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Martha Lou Irvin Smith of Greenville; a son, William H. Irvin, Sr. of Easley; two sisters, Mrs. Pauline I.

Fuller of Easley and Mrs. Lee I. Ivey of Charlotte; a brother, ulie Irvin of Green ville; seven grandchildren, Wil liam H. Irvin of Greensboro, Steven D. Irvin, LuAnne Smith and Steven Mark Smith, all of Greenville, Michael Wayne Irvin of Easley, and two step-grand children, Robbie Robertson and Michael Robertson, both of Easley; and three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Nathan and Robin Irvin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday at the Chapel of the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home. Burial will be in Graceland East Memorial Park with grandsons serving as pall bearers. Honorary pallbearers will be from the euowship Bible Class of Dunean Baptist Church along with Gary Wells and James P. (Buck)Clardy.
