Mr. McManus and his boys had been on a short hunt early yesterday, and returning home gathered with the entire family in the back yard. They were inspecting the gun, which was held by Mr.

McManus and was supposed to have been empty. In some unaccountable manner the weapon was discharged, the load taking effect in Mrs. McManus' abdomen. Local Jewry To Celebrate Historical Festival Starting Tomorrow Observance by local Jewry of the eight-day festival of Hannukah, known as the Feast of Lights, will begin tomorrow night.

The festival commemorates the period of Jewish history contained in the Apocrypha in the section of the Book of Maccabees, during the reign of Antiochus IV as king of Syria in the year 165 B. C. E. Antiochus subjected Jews to cruel tyranny, causing them to revolt under the leadership of the Maccabee family. They finally drove Syrian rule from Palestine and rededicated the temple which had been defiled, yannukah is also termed the Feast of Dedication.

The event occurred on the 25th day of the Hebrew month, of Kislev, and is celebrated by lighting a candle every day for eight days. Greenville Jewry will have a Hannukah dinner at 5 o'clock Sunday night at Beth Israel synagogue, following which plays and sketches will be enacted by children of the religious school under direction of Rabbi S. Wrubel. Judge Joseph Fromberg, of Charleston, will be guest speaker at the dinner. The public has been invited to attend.
