The winning seal is a shield with a representation of the town square's Confederate monument and with the inscription "Agriculture-In- dustry." Checks were also presented to Lucia Ann Carmichael of 312 Church for second place, and to Henry Gilliam, of Rt. 3, Abbeville, second place.

The seal designs may be used in the council's selection of an official seal. In other business, council agreed to accept bids on 28 tons of coal which is presently stockpiled in the basement of the Opera House. The city bought the coal in 1969 for $14 a ton. Mayor Pete Smith noted that such coal now brings a price of between $80 and $100 a ton. Council set the first Monday in January as the date to auction off old cars and trucks which the city wants to dispose of.

James Sweezy LIBERTY James Wesley Sweezy, 48, of 529 E. Main died Monday. Born in Belmont, N.C, son of the late Calvin and Pauline Gentry Sweezy, he was a supervisor at the'Easley Plant of Woodside Mills, a member of Liberty Lions Club, a veteran of World War II and attended Eastside Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jincey Stephens Sweezy; a son, Steve Sweezy of Greenville; two daughters, Mrs; Ann Gibson of Inman and Mrs.

Donna Messer of Liberty; a brother, George Sweezy of Easley; four sisters, Mrs. Lois Kay and Mrs. Jo Ann Jones of Easley, Mrs. Lucy Massingill of Springfield, Mo. and Mrs.

Clarence Senn KINARDS Clarence Washington Senn, 63, of Rt. 1, Kin-ards, died Tuesday. Born in Newberry County, son of the late John Edward and Carrie S. Senn, he was an employe of C. T.

Summer a graduate of Clemson College and a Clemson IPTA representative. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Seasie Dominick Senn. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Bush River Baptist Church, with burial in the church cemetery.

Pickens-Oconee Bureau WALHALLA A group of citizens from the area of Oconee Airport appeared at a hearing at the Courthouse Tuesday night to oppose a proposed expansion of the facility. Easements and noise pollution were the major objections, but attorney Robert P. Lusk added, "They think this expansion is only in the best interest of people who fly into the airport for Saturday ball-games at Clemson." Oconee County Airport is built on land donated to the county by Clemson University. The airport is near Lake Hartwell on the extreme northeast border of the county. The hearing was held to provide citizen input about the expansion for the Federal Aviation Administration and the Environmental Protection Agency.

Speaking in favor of the expansion, Herb Morgan said, "The new airport is just as necessary to at- Spartanburg Jury Rules In Death SPARTANBURG A corner's jury ruled Tuesday that no one should be held responsible for the death of Melton Champion, 78, of Mayo, who died in an auto wreck on Nov. 14. Champion's car collided with a car driven by A. G. Furman, 78, of Woodland Way Circle, Greenville, on U.

S. 221 at Mayo. Highway Patrolman J. E. Thomas said that Champion apparently pulled into the path of Furman's car.

Mrs. Maury R. Webster Mrs. Adele Hayne Scott Webster, 60, of 3029 Dale Drive, Atlanta, Ga wife of Maury Webster, died Monday in Atlanta. Born in Greenville, daughter of the late J.

Mrs. John Roberson SENECA Mrs. Charlotte Owens Roberson, 81, of 24 Humbert widow of John Roberson, died Tuesday. Born in Rabun County, daughter of the late Jesse and Mary Owens, she was a retired employe of J.P. Stevens Seneca, and a Protestant.

Surviving are a son, Henry Roberson of Seneca; four daughters, Mrs. Ha Alexander, Mrs. Daisy Bright and Mrs. Doris Chambers of Seneca and Mrs. Cordie Long of Newry; a brother, Fletcher Owens of Seneca; nine grandchildren; and seven greatgrandchildren.

Melissa Bowen of Greenville; three brothers, "u-' I. -A 5 Charged I With Thefts Oconee-Pickens Bureau EASLEY Five persons were charged with shoplifting and another with housebreaking over the weekend in Easley. Charged with four counts of shoplifting were: James Smith, 27, Sandra Williams, 25, Wanda Gamble, 22, Calvin Cureton, 22, and John Coker, 34. The alleged offenses occurred at shopping cen-. ter, the Winn-Dixie store, Bi-Lo grocery store and Edwards department store.

David M. Fowler, Was charged with breaking and entering in connection With a robbery at Farmer's Seven-11 store and a break-in at What-A-Burger. Four men were also charged with simple possession of marijuana. Hospital Has Fewer Patients Anderson Bureau ANDERSON Anderson Memorial Hospital is experiencing a decrease in the patient load of about 10 a day. This means a loss of approximately $1,000 a day, according to administrator Kirk Oglesby.

Economy measures are being adopted where possible, Oglesby said, but at present that does not include laying off workers or reducing the week. Oglesby said the patfent load is always lighter between Thanksgiving and the Christmas holidays. Officials are waiting until January to determine if the reduced patient load is seasonal or due to the general economy. S.C. Office Gets Grant WASHINGTON (AP)lThe South Carolina attorney general's office has been awarded an $118,970 grant by the Law Enforcement Assistance Administration to coordinate activities of the state's The grant was announced Monday by the office of Sen.

Strom Thurmond, The agency said the money would be to provide technical assistance and training to; the solicitors and set up a clearinghouse for problems related to prosecution. Thurmond and Sen. Ernest Hollings, also announced a $51,300 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts to the South Carolina Arts Commission. They money will support the commission's artists in the schools program. Mrs.

Born in Hartwell, son of the late Thomas M. and Sereptha Adams Bailey, he was operator of the YMCA Barber Shop at Clemson for over 40 years, a member of Clemson Masonic Lodge, Clemson Lions Club, and First Baptist Church of Clemson. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Ramsay Bailey; two sons, Dn Carl Bailey Jr.

of Greenville, Dr. Joe Bailey of St. Paul, Minn, and a brother, Pearson H. Bailey of Hartwell, a sister, Mrs. Laura Marett of Hartwell, and seven grandchildren.

2 Mrs. C. H. Wells CLINTON Mrs. Marie Grady Watson Wells, 66, widow of Charles Howard Wells of 144 Douford died Tuesday.

Born in Union County, daughter of the late William Rector and Lizzie Stevens. Grady, she was a member of Padgett's Creek Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Robert A. Watson of Union and Jason G. Watson Jr.

of Cross Keys; two sisters, Mrs Russell Bentley and Mrs. Inez Grady of Union; two brothers, William Grady of Union and J. R. Grady of Woodruff; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Claude Thompson of Simpsonville; four grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Padgett's Creek Baptist Church, with burial in Yarborough Chapel Church cemetery. S.R. Hol-combe Funeral Home. John Millwood WHITESTONE John Walter Millwood, 58, died Tuesday.

Born in Spartanburg County, son of the late John Richard and Nancy Huitt Millwood, he was an employe of Carolina Foundary Draper Corporation, a member of Cedar Springs Baptist Church, the VFW and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Beula Mae Powell Millwood; a stepson, Donald Weathers of Charlotte, N.C; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Barbara Ashback of West Palm Beach, three brothers, Charlie Milwood of Spartanburg, Roy Millwood of Pacolet and Trim Millwood of Rock Hill; three sisters, Miss Bessie Millwood of Whitestone, Mrs. Onie Wilson of Gaffney and Mrs.
