'He said that already the AMA was "getting about two suits a week" and that a $19 million suit now is pending against the organization.

Supporters of the measure argued against reconsideration. Wendell G. Scott, a delegate from St. Louis, said: "Gentlemen, if we are afraid of being sued we could not practice medicine." In another action at the concluding session of the AMA's 115th annual convention the house approved a resolution saying doctors should not be required to attest that they do not discriminate racially in treating Medicare patients. Charleston's Port Reports New Records CHARLESTON (P)-The Port of Charleston ended the fiscal year Thursday ringing up new records for the volume of cargo handled at state docks, in the number of ships calling at the docks and the customs dues paid on imports.

Though fiscal 1965-66 fizzled out with a week-long slack spell for the waterfront, the State Ports Authority calculated that cargoes which moved across their Charleston terminals in the past year totaled 1,425,989 tons, compared with 1,151,597 in fiscal 1964-65. The smaller state ports actually recorded a decrease in carvolume Georgetown from 279,970 to 217,924 tons, and Port Royal from 11,288 to 3,245 tons. For the first time in four years, State Port Terminals set a new record for the number of vessels calling to load and discharge cargo. There were 1,367 visiting merchant ships. The previous high was 1,349 vessels in fiscal 1961- 62.

Georgetown's state terminal was visited by 42 ships, including tankers, which was an increase of three over last fiscal year. Port Royal's callers fell from 23 to six. "The general increase in tonnage and shipping shows a need for continuous expansion of port facilities," a spokesman for the Porth Authority said Thursday night. The spokesman pointed out that since 1958, cargo tonnage figures have soared from 000 to 1.6 million. District Director Carl H.
