This is a good sign. Since the exact cause or type of injury is very hard to identify, a specific cure does not exist. There is no "secret remedy" for Bell's palsy. H. Dear Doctor: "Has anyone produced a cure for Bell's palsy? The doctor said if it didn't go away in six months it most likely would never go away. Eight months later the left side of my face is still paralyzed but finally my eye has started to blink again." MRS. D. Bell's palsy is the name assigned to what happens when something affects a branch of the facial nerve that which controls muscles of the face.

Peeples said there would be no resumption of the spraying until all interested persons had been alerted and were able to take protective measures. Peeples said there had been no known cases of yellow fever originating in South Carolina in the past 20 or 30 years. But he added that with many service personnel returning from countries where the disease is prevalent, there is a "great potential for creation of an epidemic." South and Central American countries, through a massive program have succeeded in eradicating their mosquitoes, Peeples said. But there still are places in the southern United States, from Texas to South Carolina, where the mosquito is found. An aerial spray program already has been carried through in the Florence area.

Programs are planned for Columbia, Spartanburg and Greenville. C. E. Corley, director of the division of environmental health of the State Board of Health, says that the aerial spraying program has been found necessary to supplement the ground bum knee, or other sucn au-ments, but a few of us have to settle for partial recovery, and that's about the way it is with damage to a facial nerve, or Bell's palsy. Dons and Janet, of Spartan Bell's palsy doesn't affect all of the face, nor all of the expressions of the face, but it does paralyze the nerve branch which controls part of the face and its muscles. A drooping of the corner of the mouth and of the eyelid on the affected side of the face is the principal consequence. Remember, only one branch of the facial muscle is involved.

It is not a serious ailment in the sense of endangering life or being painful. It isn't something that spreads. It isn't contagious, either. It is an annoyance. To answer Mrs.

F. question, it is a local condition which affects a part of the nerve of the face. A stroke is damage to some part of the brain, and the resulting paralysis depends on which part of that organ has been damaged, and how seriously. Bell's palsy has nothing to do with the brain and its signals. It is an interference in nerve signals at a "local station," and not at "headquarters." What causes the trouble in the branch of the nerve? It may be a chill, an infection, or in occasional instances a physical injury.

Can food stores legally advertise certain special sales for certain days and then claim they have "sold out" yet have stock left the very next morning of the same advertised Items? Should they not be required to keep on hand enough of the sale merchandise to supply customers who come in during the store hours? A.

The practice as you describe lt sounds questionable. A store may in fact run out of advertised items, but some stores have a custom of issuing "rain checks" to customers who are disappointed by lack of sufficient supply. A "rain check" entitles a customer to the product offered during the sale, at the sale price, whenever it becomes available again. In the case you describe, the stock on sale the morning after the sale should have been made available at the sale price, if customers were turned away the previous day because it was "sold out."
