Varner SPARTANBURG Ralph S. Varner, 54, of 357 St. Andrews died Wednesday. Born in Spartanburg County, son of the late Jesse C. and Nancy McAbee Varner, he was a resident engineer at Draper and was a member of Spartan Masonic Lodge No.

70 and a veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Julia West Varner; two daughters, Miss Rita Varner and Miss Susan Varner of home; two sisters, Mrs. Lillian Wheeler and Mrs. Palmer Smith of Spartanburg; and two brothers, Jesse and Leroy Varner of Rt.

4, Spartanburg. Funeral services will be Friday at 4 p.m, at Floyd's Greenlawn Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. J. W. McElrath Joseph Warren "'Joe'' McElrath, 68, of 22 Dorsey Brandon community, died Thursday.

Born in Piedmont, son of the late Riley and Grace Buckhiester McElrath, was a member of Brandon Baptist Church, a retired employe of Brandon Mill, and a member of Brandon Masonic Lodge No. 297 A.F.M. and the Hejaz Shrine. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Hazel Couch McElrath; a daughter, Mrs.

Chapman, 67, wife of Claude H. Chapman, of 7 First LaFrance, died Thursday. Born in Anderson County, daughter of the late Vice and Emma Graham Dacus, she was a member of Centerville Church of God. Surviving also are two, sons, Ed Chapman of Central and William Chapman of LaFrance; a daughter, Mrs. Roy Hightower of Central; three brothers, Frank, Alston and Walker Dacus of LaFrance; four grandchildren; and three greatgrandchildren.

The Nixon Headquarters Opened At Newberry Newberry-Greenwood Bureau NEWBERRY A skydivers dropped in with the scissors to cut the ribbon and open the Re-elect Nixon Headquarters at the Newberry shopping center Thursday, Laurens Man Found Innocent Of Murder LAURENS John William Pryor, a 39-year-old Laurens County man, was acquitted by a General Sessions Court jury Thursday of a charge of murder in the shotgun death of Melvin Willard, 27, of Rt.

1, Waterloo. The shooting occurred Aug. 27, 1971, outside Cooper's Place six miles south of Waterloo. In another case Thursday, two Laurens County men were sentenced for their part in the armed robbery at Sligh's General Store in Mountville Dec. 18, 1971.
