Friday, April 20, 1984 The Greenville News deaths Other deaths, Pages 7B, 7C Greenville native dies in Louisiana NEW ORLEANS, La. The Rev. Canon William Stephen Turner 79, a native of Greenville, S.C., died April 12 in New Orleans. Turner, a graduate of Greenville High School, received undergraduate and theological training at the University of the South. Before moving to New Orleans in 1945, Turner was appointed canon of St.

Phillip's Cathedral in Atlanta where he served from 1930 to 1935. In 1935, he was made Canon in Perpetuity. He was rector of St. Paul's Church in Winston-Salem, N.C., from 1935 to 1943 and later became rector of Holy Trinity Church in West Palm Beach, Fla. Turner served Trinity church until his retirement in 1968.

He helped establish Trinity Episcopal School in 1960. From 1945 to 1962, Turner served as chaplain of the Louisiana and New Orleans Officers Association. He was a member of the board of the Kingsley House Association from 1946 to 1969, was president of the Standing Committee of the Diocese from 1949 to 1955, president of the New Orleans Council of Churches from 1951 to 1952 and president of the Education Committee for Crime Prevention from 1951 to 1960. Turner also was a director of the Commission for a Better Louisiana, a member of thee board of the Metropolitan New Orleans Crime Commission, a member of the Safety Council, and a member of the board of directors of Heddorn Home. He was a pioneer in the formation of the New Orleans Federation of Churches.

Surviving are his daughter, Elisa Turner Pohlmann of New Orleans; and a son, Dr. William Stephen Turner III of Vienna, Va. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson New Orleans, with burial in Hendersonville, N.C. Helen Moseley dies at age 96 SPARTANBURG Helen Allston DuPre Moseley, 96, of 662 Otis died Thursday.

She was a retired postmaster of Spartanburg, having served from 1934 to 1956. She was an artist later in her career. Her father, the late Daniel Allston DuPre, was on the faculty of Wofford College. She was a former member of the board of trustees of Converse College where she received degrees in 1907 and 1909. Mrs.

Moseley was one of the organizers of the Spartanburg Humane Society, charter member of the Business and Professonal Women's Club, charter member of obituaries MRS. BLANCHE M. MARTIN Mrs. Blanche McDonald Martin, 70, of 4 Kent Lane, widow of Joe Earle Martin, died Tuesday. Born in Walhalla, she was a daughter of the late James P.

and Lizzie Powell McDonald. She was Me member of Northgate Baptist Church, the Lottie Moon Sunday School Class and the Senior Citizen Club of the Church. Surviving are son, James Walter Martin of Greenville; two sisters, Mrs. Lucille Carman of Easley and Mrs. Ruth Easler of Greenville three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2 PM at The Mackey Mortuary by Dr. Robert B. Whaley. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The body is at the Mortuary.

The family is at the home. MRS. G. DAVID COUCH Mrs. Carrie Smith Couch, 85, of 45 Woodlawn widow of George David (Dave) Couch, died Tuesday at a local hospital after three weeks of serious illness.

Born in Anderson County, April 26, 1898, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Carrie Bryant Smith. She had lived in Greenville for many years and was employed with Dan River Mills, Woodside Plant until her retirement in 1960. She was custodian at Woodside Baptist Church, and was a member of Woodside Baptist Church, member of W.M.U. and the T.E.L. Class of the Sunday School.

Her late husband, George David (Dave) Couch died in 1982. Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Frances Byers, Mrs. Edna Queen, Mrs. Sue Freeman and Mrs.

Faye Phillips, all of Greenville and Mrs. Jane Queen of Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Edgar S. (Tobe) Couch of Greer and Ronald D. Couch of Pelzer; a sister, Mrs. Lois McCoy of Piedmont, eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

A native of Gaffney, S.C., he was a son of the late George Melvin and Eva Anthony Huskey. He had lived in Greenville most of his life, and was a brick mason superintendent with Pennix Construction Company before his retirement. Mr. Huskey was a member of East Park Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Mrs.

Eleanor H. Deloache of Greenville and Dora F. Huskey of Niceville, Florida; three sons, L. A. Huskey of WinstonSalem, N.C., G.

Huskey of Piedmont, S.C. and M.S.I. L.F. Huskey, U.S. Navy, Centerville, Ga; a sister, Miss Julia Huskey of South Boston, twelve grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 4 PM Saturday at the Chapel of the Thomas McAfee Funeral Home by Rev. Spencer LeGrand. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. The Family is at the residence. RALPH E.

GREENE Ralph Edward Greene, 75, of 22 W. Fifth Street, Woodside Community, husband of Violet Byers Greene, died Wednesday at a local hospital after a sudden illness. A native of Anderson County, he was the son of the late John crombie of Baltimore, and two sisters, Lula B. Jones and Josephine Mitchell, both of Greenville. Services: 3 p.m.

He was employed in the produce department of Kash and Karry supermarket before his retirement. He was a member of North Fork Baptist Church in Travelers Rest. Surviving are his wife, Myrtle Bryant Banks; four daughters, Mrs. Ollie (Ruby) Dillard and Mrs. Francis (Betty) Cote, both of Mauldin, Mrs.

Jason E. (Viola) Cannon of Greenwood and Mrs. Jack W. (Dorothy) Matthews of Greenville; three sisters, Mrs. Ellen B.

Bryant of Greer, Mrs. Mary B. Bradley and Mrs. Olger B. Lepard, both of Greenville; and two brothers, Lloyd Banks of Travelers Rest and Velvert Banks of Florida.

Esther Bates ANDERSON Esther Andersen Bates, 64, of 618 Carey died Wednesday. She was employed by the Singer Company and was a Methodist. Surviving are a son, James Wilson Bates of Anderson; a daughter, Deborah Marie Bates of Summit, N.J.; a brother, Harold Andersen of Penn Yon, N.Y.; and a sister, Helen Cassetta of Boca Raton, Fla.

William H. Black SIX MILE William Hamilton "Jack" Black, 57, of Route 1, Mountain View Community, died Wednesday. He was an automobile mechanic. Greenville; Luanne a grandson, C. Phillip McIntyre of Greenville; a sister, Mrs. Gladys G. Smith of Walhalla; three greatgrandchildren; two half sisters, Mrs. Hettie Sue Smith and Mrs.
