after 35 years and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in the European Theater. A member of the National Guard, Masonic Lodge 385, Hejaz Shrine Temple, American Legion Frank Roach Post 34, VFW Post 2889, he was an Emmanuel Baptist Church member. Surviving are his wife, Vera S. Cranford of the home; three sons, Francis Paul Cranford of Selma, Richard M.A.

Cranford of Columbia, and Trevor John Cranford of Clearwater, a daughter, Naideen C. White of Charleston; two brothers, Dale Cranford of Lincoln, and Duke Daniel Cranford of Kansas; three sisters, Edith Atkins of North Carolina, Clara Parsons of Bisco, N.C., and Sarah Craig of Arizona; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Memorials: Emmanuel Baptist Church, Scholarship Fund, 1004 McDow Drive, Rock Hill 29732. Graveside services: 11 a.m. Wednesday in Grandview Memorial Park.

Greene Funeral Home, Rock Hill. a Charles I. Dial Columbia Charles Inglesby Dial died Dec. 26, 1995. He was a graduate of The Citadel and was a U.S.

Air Force pilot. He retired as store manager with Firestone Tire Co. and was a member of the Columbia Cotillion Club and Trinity Episcopal Church. Surviving are three sons, Charles Dial of Seneca, William Dial of Columbia, and Lee Dial of Belton; two daughters, Rose Ashley of Columbia, and Elizabeth Dial of Belton; a brother, Andrew Dial of Columbia; and two grandchildren. Private services were held Saturday.

Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel, Columbia. Clara P. Dillard, Denver, N.C. Clara Prater Dillard, 69, of 8158 Blades Trail, died Jan. 1, 1996, at Lincoln Medical Center in Lincolnton.

A member of Denver Baptist Church, she was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Charlie Dillard of the home; two daughters, Lynda Flowe of Matthews, N.C., and Charlene Pike of Lenoir, N.C.; a brother, Edward Prater of Greenville: and six grandchildren. Memorials: Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, S.C. 29605.

Services: 2 p.m. Thursday at Denver Baptist Church. Burial: 2 p.m. Friday in, Hepsibah Baptist Church Cemetery in Seneca. Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m.

Wednesday at Denver Baptist Church. Warlick Funeral Home, Lincolnton. -Catherine B. Duncan, Greer Catherine Braswell Duncan, 82, of 110 Pine St. Extension, died Jan.

1, 1996, at Allen Bennett Memorial Hospital. A McFarlan, Anson County, N.C., native, she was a daughter of the late Hiram Eugene and Susan Elizabeth Ratcliffe Braswell. Her husband was the late D. Catherine B. Vincent DunDuncan can.

A retired schoolteacher and principal, having been principal at Pelham Elementary School, she was a graduate of what is now East Carolina University. A member of the Joyce Scott Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy, she was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving are a son, David V. Duncan II of Greer; two sisters, Claire B. Kozel of Tacoma Park, and Sarah B.

Foster of Hendersonville, N.C.; and nieces and nephews. Memorials: Memorial United Methodist Church, 201 N. Main Greer 29650. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at Memorial United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev.

John Rush. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at The Wood Mortuary, Greer. a Lonnie Fisher, Walhalla Lonnie Crawford Fisher, 79, of 106 Lonnie Drive, died Jan.

2, 1996, at his home. Retired from the construction industry, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of Visitation: 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Duckett Funeral Home, Central. Mrs.

Ralph L. Hamby, Simpsonville Bonnie Ballew Hamby, 87, of 1526 Highway 14, died Jan. 2, 1996, at National Health Care in Greer following a period of declining health. A homemaker, she was a member of Rocky Creek Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class. Surviving are her husband, Ralph L.

Hamby; two daughters, Mrs. Wilton (Betty) Bagwell of Greenville, and Mrs. Glen (Joan) Thomas of Simpsonville; three sons, Ralph Lee Hamby Jr. Greenville, William E. Hamby of Simpsonville, and Jerry W.

Hamby of Easley; two sisters, Maude B. Mahaffey of Fountain Inn, and Ruth B. Brown of Simpsonville; five brothers, Dillard Ballew and Lewis Ballew, both of Simpsonville, Golden Ballew of Fountain Inn, Paul Ballew of Greenville, and Robert Ballew of Woodruff; 13 grandchildren; and nine greatgrandchildren. Services: 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Mausoleum Chapel of Graceland East Memorial Park.

Visitation: 2 to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the mausoleum chapel. Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Downtown. a William J. Holcombe, Piedmont William J.

Holcombe, 70, formerly of Piedmont, died Dec. 28, 1995, at a hospital near his home in Norco, Calif. He was former board chairman and chief executive officer of IMO Industries Inc. in Lawrenceville, N.J. He was chairman from the time IMO became a publicly held company in 1986 until he retired in 1993.

Earlier, he held a series of senior management positions with IMO's predecessor companies from 1960 to 1975, including president and chief executive officer of Delaval Turbine Co. in Trenton, N.J., and a group vice president of its parent company, Transamerica the San Francisco- financial services firm. 1, 1996. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Sam Houston Gosnell of the home; a son, Scott Cram of Lyman; a daughter, Robin Bearfield of Lyman; a sister, Doris Ashley of Altamonte Springs, Fla. Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Stribling Funeral Home, Duncan. Maynard A. Greene, Greer Maynard Andrew Greene, 54, of 2260 El Centro Drive, died Jan. 1, 1996, at Greenville Memorial Medical Center.

A self-employed barber for Happy Hair and Pearson's Barber Shop, he was a Victor Baptist Church member and Navy veteran. Surviving are his wife, Betty Wilkes of the home; a daughter, Michelle Greene of Greer; two brothers, U.M. Greene Jr. of Gaffney, and Fred M. Greene of Moonville; and two sisters, Iris G.

Pinson and Montez G. Harvey, both of Gaffney. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday at The Wood Mortuary, Greer, with burial in Wood Memorial Park.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at the mortuary. The family will be at the home of Sherry Graddick, 647 Batesville Road, Greer. Eva B. Gunnells, Central Eva Bryant Gunnells, 94, formerly of Central, died Jan.

1, 1996, Harvey's Nursing Home in Six Mile. A Cannon Memorial Baptist Church member, she was a homemaker. Surviving are a son, Furman Gunnells of Marietta, two daughters, Lola Roach and Lois Shirley, both of Central; a sister, Mattie Stewart of Westminster; 14 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. Graveside services: 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Memory Gardens.

Born in Piedmont, he was the son of the late Horey W. Holcombe and Hattie Jones Holcombe. He served with the U.S. Navy destroyer fleet in World War Il and earned a B.S.

degree in finance from Rutgers University in 1952. Surviving are his wife, Christine Holcombe of the home; two daughters, Judith Holcombe of Yorba Linda, and Cheryl H. Gates of Norco; a sister, Ella Mae Locke of Greenville; a grandson, William C. Pettit of Placentia, a great -grandson, Michael A. Pettit; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held Tuesday at Church of Our Heritage, Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Covina, Calif. Forest Lawn Mortuary, Covina, Calif. S. Holden Seneca ca Insurance Transamerica Financial Occidental Life Insurance Corp. and United Artists Corp.

After leaving Delaval in 1975, he spent 10 years managing a privately owned business with operations in the Southwest, in South America and the Far East, rejoining IMO in 1986. In 1988, he was presented a Bronze Award in Financial World magazine's "Chief Executive Officer of the Year" competition. He was one of three chief executive officers recognized for "superior leadership and business achievement." He was a director of Wilbur-Ellis a San Francisco-based firm, and served 10 years on the board of directors of the Merchants Manufacturers Association of Los Angeles. He was also a member of the President's Council of the Nixon Library, the World Presidents' Organization, the board of trustees of Eddie Slyvester Holden 65, of 1042 Hunter died Dec. 30, 1995, at his home.

He was a member of St. Paul Pentecostal Holiness Church in Westminster and attended Brown Tabernacle in Seneca. Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Hoover Holden of the home; two sons, Eddie Randolph Holden of Clemson, and Kenneth Holden of Richland; three daughters, Ivey Putman of Seneca, Gloria Knight of Anderson, and Erris Ann Griffin of Pickens; a brother, George Holden of Columbia; five sisters, Maggie Hoover and Josephine Patterson, both of Westminster, and Pearlene Evett, Amilee Huff and Frances Cleveland, all of Seneca; 21 grandchildren; and 15 greatgrandchildren. Services: 4 p.m. Wednesday at W.D.
