The library would be named after the late Kerry Ann Younts Culp, 39, who died with leukemia in 1996. She was a first- and second-' grade teacher at Fork Shoals Elementary School for more than 10 years, Brooks said. She said the decision to name the library after Culp was made after her father, Melvin K.Younts, donated $100,000 to kick off fundraising efforts for the new library. "I think we can do things in an environmentally friendly way. We decided to do our little part of the Pleasantburg Drive cleanup." The city is also replacing the fences on the bridge and plans to landscape along adjacent access ramps, Gollub said.

He said he didn't know the exact cost of these two projects, but the city has earmarked about $170,000 for infrastructure and signage improvements for the corridor. The current work follows this spring's upgrade of the hilly patch of landscape in front of the Phoenix Inn. "We want to focus on the cleaning up of the corridor," Gollub said..
