Born in Laurens, he was the son of Lois Riddie Bowers of Laurens and the late Donald P. Bowers. Mr. Bowers was in the U.S.

Marine Reserves during Vietnam, employed with Fluor Daniel and was of the Baptist faith. Surviving in addition to his mother, are a daughter, Sara Christine Bowers of Falls Church, VA; brother, Jeff Y. Bowers and wife, Sandy of Piedmont; and numerous aunts and uncles. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008, in The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel, conducted by Rev.

Bob Cato and Rev. Tim Bouton, with entombment in Forest Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will be at the home of his mother, 101 Windsor Drive, Laurens, and will receive friends one hour before the service at The Kennedy Mortuary. www.thekennedymortuary.com Vera Hester Browning Greer Vera Mildred Hester Browning, 87, of 111 Buddy Ave, widow of William Eddie Browning, died August 22, 2008, at Lila Doyle Nursing Center, Seneca. A native of Piedmont, daughter of the late Rev. William Robert and Lula Garrett Hester, she was a retired employee of Textube Corporation and member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Philathea Sunday School Class. Surviving are daughter and son-inlaw, Donna and Collas Harris of Salem; grandson, Jonathan Harris of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Rev. Jack Hester and his wife Shirley of Easley; three sisters, Thelma Smith and her husband Dortcha of Greer, Eunice Vaughn of Greenville and Ellen Davis and her husband Ralph of Simpsonville; and sister-in-law, Aleathea Hester of Greenville, N.C.

Mrs. Browning was predeceased by brother, William Robert "Bill" Hester, and a sister, Frances Gilbert. Visitation will be held 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m.

She was a native of Trenton, New Jersey, and a daughter of the late Donald Ballard Rice and Louise Howell Rice.

Harriet attended Hollins College and was a graduate of the former New Jersey College of Women, now Rutgers University. She and her husband moved to South Carolina in the 1960s with the family textile business, W.J. Dickey and Sons. She was a sustaining member of the Greenville Junior League, the Wildwood Garden Club, the Greenville Country Club and Fourth Presbyterian Church. Harriet was an avid tennis player and played into her eighties.

She is survived by her children, sons, Bruce S. Dickey and wife, Effie; Scott A. Dickey and wife, Kathy, all of Greenville; daughter, Louise A. Morton and husband, Bill of Fredericksburg, VA; brothers, Louis S. Rice of Gettysburg, PA, and Robert H.

Rice of Atlanta, GA; and grandchildren, James Ashby IV, Turner D. Ashby, Mays Dickey, Bruce S. Dickey, O'Connor G. Ashby II, Effie Lloyd Dickey, Kaitlin C. Dickey and Scott A.

Edgar "Eddie" Harbin, 84, of 216 Berkley Avenue, Greenville, SC, died August 22, 2008. He was born August 1, 1924, in Greenville, SC, to the late Edgar Harbin, Sr. and Lillie McCarson. He was educated in Greenville County Schools and was retired from American Spinning. He was a Veteran of the U.S.

Army, serving during WWII. He was a member of Arrington Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was a member of Jane's Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Bryan Harbin; and a brother, David Floyd Harbin. Surviving are his wife, Kate Tripp Harbin; two sons, Henry "Hank" Harbin, Kenneth Harbin; a daughter, Patricia "Pat" Massey, all of Greenville; two sisters, Flora Locklin of Denver, NC, Evelyn McAvoy of Greenville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Hughes Greer On Friday, August 22, Donnie Hamlin Hughes of Greer, SC, wife of Rev. Wallace Hughes, went to meet her redeemer and savior, Jesus Christ.

She had fought a heroic battle with cancer for almost 4 years. She had maintained an active and enjoyable life up until about the middle of June. Her Oncologist, Dr. Larry Puls, and her Nutritionist, Dr. Charles Campbell, gave their best to see that she enjoyed a good quality of life.

The family wishes to thank them for their ministry to her and also to thank her oncology nurse, Mary Ellen, and her Hospice Nurses, Andrea, Jan, and Catherine, and her Hospice Case Worker, Tracy, for a very compassionate and caring ministry. Donnie was the daughter of the late Harlow J. Hamlin and Mary Alice Tinsley Hamlin of Liberty, SC. She and her husband were members of the class of 1955 of Liberty High School. After high school, she worked as Office Manager of Atlantic and Gulf States Insurance Company of Easley for 4 years.

In 1957, she married her high school sweetheart while he was a student at Furman University. On June 30, they celebrated 51 years of wonderful marriage. In 1959, they moved to Fort Worth, Texas, and both of them enrolled as students at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, After one year, Donnie gave up the classroom to become Director of the Oder Department of the Library of the seminary, She continued in that role until they returned to South Carolina to begin serving churches throughout the state. She spent the majority of her married years as a homemaker, but did work as Secretary and Art Assistant at Seven Elementary School Columbia, and a as an Administrative Assistant in Development at Connie Maxwell Children's Home in Greenwood. During the 20 years that Wallace served as a Pastor and the 18 years that he served as an Associational Director of Missions, she was a faithful servant of the Lord, serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, WMU member and Associational WMU Director, and English as a Second Language Teacher.

But her main ministry was being a wife, mother, a grandmother, and a friend. That was the ministry that was so important to her, and she was wonderful in the role. She enjoyed her flower garden, bird watching, reading, and Her two grandchildren were her favorite two subjects to talk about. She loved people, had a huge host of friends, and had a special place in her heart for missions and evangelism. She was a member of Abner Creek Baptist Church, Greer.

Surviving are her husband, Wallace Hughes; their two daughters, Cynthia H. Masters and Sheri H. Wright; their two sonsin-law, Dr. Lance Masters and Kevin Wright; their two grandchildren, Taylor Wright and Hailey Wright; two brothers, Talmedge and Wayne Hamlin; seven sisters, Lois Hayes, Dorothy McCall, Nell Gibson, Mary Hester, Janet Wilson, Shirley Stephens, and Antha James. She was predeceased by a brother, Fred Hamlin, and a sister, Grace Hamlin.

A Committal Service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday in the Chapel of Reflection Mausoleum at Robinson Memorial Gardens, 1425 Powdersville Road, Easley, SC 29642. He was a charter member of Lutheran Church of Our Savior. John graduated from the Citadel in 1970, and was retired after 27 years from Square Electrical in Columbia, SC. Along with his mother, he is survived by many cousins. A graveside service will be held Monday, August 25, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

George Sullivan, age 84, of 1915 Liberty Church Road, died Friday at the McCall Hospice House, Simpsonville. A son of the late Allen Sullivan and Savannah Vance Sullivan, and the husband of the late Willie Ruth Sullivan. He was a member and Deacon of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Simpsonville. Mr. Sullivan was a retired employee of the Beattie Plant, Fountain Inn.

He is survived by two sons, George Sullivan, and Broadus Sullivan, both of Greenville, SC; eight daughters, Madge Pilgrim of Fountain Inn, Emma Sullivan, Hurley Sullivan, Mary Sullivan, Rev. Parry Williams and Celoney Sullivan, all of Greenville, Ella Fuller of Detroit, MI, and Katheryn Perry of Greer, SC; two brothers, David Sullivan and Alvin Sullivan, both of Simpsonville; thirty-two grandchildren; fifty-five greatgrandchildren; and fourteen great-greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held Monday, 3 p.m. at the Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Simpsonville, with Dr. Robert E.

Drummer Harman dies at 79 GANNETT NEWS SERVICE Buddy Harman, the percussion heartbeat of Music Row and Nashville's best-known and most-recorded drummer, died Thursday evening of congestive heart failure. He was 79.
