Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Leander Singleton (Bane) Bayne and Laura Arphene Wells Bayne. Mr. Bayne retired from JP Stevens-Slater Plant and was a member of Forestville Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons, Clyde Nathan Bayne and wife, Gaynell, of Marietta and Kevin Stancil Bayne and wife, Beverly, of Travelers Rest; grandchildren, Julie Gowan and husband, Brent, Travis Harvey and wife, Tristan, Stephen Bayne and wife, Christina, Wesley Bayne and Lisa Bayne; great grandchildren, Hannah Gowan, Noah Gowan, Avah Gowan, Cole Ryhmer; sisters, Amanda Bayne Silvers of Travelers Rest, Martha Bayne Kelly of Travelers Rest and Laura Bayne Silvers of Travelers Rest.

Mr. Bayne was predeceased by one brother, George Olen Bayne; and three sisters, Lucille Bayne Hall, Ruby Bayne Pruitt, and Margaret Bayne Swaney. Visitation will be Thursday, May 1, 2008, from p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest. The funeral service will be Friday, May 2, 2008, at Forestville Baptist Church at 3 p.m.

Bluford of 4 Barwood Drive died Sunday, April 27, 2008, at her home. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Lucinda Ellis. Survivors: daughters, Cheryl A. Hood of Anderson, Tami V. Hood of Greenville; son, Curtis Hood of the home; six grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

Funeral Services: Friday, 2 p.m. at Watkins, Garrett and Woods Mortuary with burial in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. The family is at the home. Shirley Ray Boswell Greenville Mr. Shirley Ray Boswell, 86, of 140 W.

Marion Road, died Wednesday, April 29, 2008. Born in Greenville County, he was a son of the late Rufus Shirley Boswell and Alta Ellen Barnett Boswell. Mr. Boswell retired from General Motors of Parma, Ohio, after 20 years of service and later from American Security. He was member of Ebenezer Welcome Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Doris Moody Boswell, of the home; a daughter, Shirley Bensch and husband, William, of Pendleton; two brothers, James L. Boswell of Piedmont and Charles Boswell of Greer; two grandchildren, Lisa McElveen and Kristie Gardner; five great-grandchildren, Emily McElveen, Philip, Andrew, Anna Rae and Frankie Elizabeth Gardner. He was preceded in death by a sister, Annelle Rickard. Visitation will be Thursday, May 1, 2008, from 6-8 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest.

The funeral service will be Friday, May 2, 2008, at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery, West. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon Greenville, SC 29605 or Open Arms Hospice, 1836 W. Georgia Road, Simpsonville, SC 29680.

The family is at the residence. Alice Eloise Hollis Brown Spartanburg Alice Hollis Brown died Tuesday evening, April 29, 2008, at Eden Terrace Assisted Living. She was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Clarendon, and raised in Rock Hill, S.C., the daughter of the late Dr. John Porter Hollis and Mary Walker Hollis.

Mrs. Brown graduated with an A.B. degree from Winthrop College and received a master's degree in library science from Columbia University, New York, N.Y. Before her marriage, she taught school at Cheraw, S.C., and later at Pine Street Elementary School in Spartanburg, where she became the head librarian for the school. She was a former member of The Assembly, former member and past president of The Junior League of Spartanburg, former member and past president of The Book Club, former member and president of the Fruit and Flower Gardeners, former member and president of the Any Wednesday Lunch Club, former member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, past secretary of the Spartanburg County Historical Association, past secretary of the Arts Partnership of Greater Spartanburg, and a former board member for the Spartanburg County Library and the Speech Clinic.

She was a member of The Episcopal Church of the Advent, where she had served as past secretary of the ECW. Mrs. Brown is survived by her sister, Juliette Hollis Moody of Spartanburg; her niece, Rosemary Moody Roberts and her nephew, Lehman Rowell Moody, both of Spartanburg; and three great-nephews, Lehman Rowell Moody, Jr. of Charleston, S.C., Bayard Falls Moody and John Taylor Moody, both of Spartanburg. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Randolph "Ranny" Brown, and her brotha er, Dr.

Daniel Walker Hollis of Columbia, South Carolina. A memorial service will be held Friday, May 2, 2008, at 10 a.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Advent with the Rev. Sue Perrin presiding. A private burial will be held at a later date in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Cooper was the owner and operator of Cooper Medical Supply and a former car salesman associated with several car dealerships in Spartanburg and Greenville.

He was a member of the Patterson Chapel United Methodist Church and a dedicated Shriner. Mr. Cooper was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corp. Continued on Page 12A Father of LSD dies By Frank Jordans THE ASSOCIATED PRESS GENEVA Albert Hofmann, the father of the mind-altering drug LSD has died at 102. He died Tuesday at his home in Burg im Leimental, said Doris Stuker, a municipal clerk in the village near Basel where Hofmann moved following his retirement in 1971. For decades after LSD was banned in the late 1960s, Hofmann defended his invention. "I produced the substance as a medicine. It's not my fault if people abused it," he once said.

The Swiss chemist discovered lysergic acid diethylamide-25 in 1938 while studying the medicinal uses of a fungus at Sandoz pharmaceuticals. He became the first human guinea pig of the drug when a tiny amount seeped onto his finger during an experiment in 1943. For a time, Sandoz sold LSD 25 under the name Delysid..
