He was born November 28, 1923 in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

He was the son of Arrah Rosa Trevathan and Herbert Joseph Knight. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Hilburn Knight, a son, Dr. Michael Knight (Mary Elizabeth) a daughter Candice Eubanks (Steve) and 5 grandchildren, As hley Buskirk (Ryan), Rachael Knight, Emily Knight, Adam Knight and Hannah Knight. In his younger years, Herbert was active in the boy scouts. He received the Eagle Scout award and the Green band award.

During WWII, Herbert served in the U.S. Army in the infantry and with the 174th Finance Disbursement Section in the Asiatic Theatre, primarily in the Philippines. Following the war, he attended UNC at Chapel Hill and graduated in 1949 with a B.S. degree in Commerce. He later attended the Harvard School of Credit and Finance.

He was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Beta Gamma Sigma, the Honorary Commerce Fraternity. After graduation, he was employed by the Tyler group of Belk stores headquartered in Rocky Mount, NC. where he served as Vice President and Controller. In 1972, he was transferred to Charlotte and served as Vice President of Credit and Account Receivables in order to consolidate Credit Operations in the Southeast and to manage credit center. He was president of the Charlotte Retail Credit Association and served two years on the board of the National Retail Merchant Associates and as chairman of the Credit Management Divisions.

He was a long term member of the Kiwanis Civic Club in Rocky Mount and Charlotte. He served on the board of many organizations. He was president of the Rocky Mount Association, The Symphony Society and the Rocky Mount Mental Health Association where he and his wife led the drive to establish a clinic for treatment of mentally ill individu- als. He was active in Church activities and organizations throughout his life. In Rocky Mount, he helped to build Saint Episcopal Church and served as Senior Warden, Super- intendant of the Sunda School and Lay reader.

In Charlotte, he was an active member of Saint Episcopal Church and frequently served as lay reader. He completed a program of Theological Education for Ministry offered by the University of the South in 1987 and continued to stud with members of his class until leaving Charlotte. He became a member of Earle Street Baptist Church when he moved to Greenville, SC. Herbert and his wife, Dorothy moved to Rolling Green Village in Greenville, SC in 2005 in order to be closer to their daughter. Herbert was active in the life of the community and served as tr easurer of the Association and President of Morningside Community.

Bobbie Lee Johnson Greenville John Marion McFadden, Sr. born May 10, 1930 in Fountain Inn, SC died on November 5, 2016 at the age of 86. Surviving loved ones: a son: John, Jr.
